Back To The Real World

The last 10 weeks have been amazing. I have lived so much life in such a short period of time, I will never be able to do it justice with just words.
Like all good things, it is coming to an end. Tomorrow I go back to work. Lucky for me, I love my job. Even better, I know Penelope will be in the very best of hands with Nanny & Mam.
I miss her already but enough about that so the tears don't start already....

As you may have noticed, Penelope's eyes are often crossed. This week we saw a specialist at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. Unfortunately it can;t be fixed with glasses or patching so Penelope will have surgery on both of her eyes soon. It sounds like a very simple procedure. Dr. Wolf has already told us the exact same thing so we were prepared.

Lynette Huddleston gave Penelope the most beautiful doll this week. She was very impressed!

Quincy is multi talented!

He loves to snuggle up to Gabe's friends. Wade is just one of the family at our house!

Penelope showing off her chop sticks skills!

Her pants were falling down. Maybe we weren't quite ready for the 12 months pants...

Since we have been home from China we have stuck very close to home. We've gone to church and to the Dr, but that's been about it. We had another first this weekend, a visit to Mam and Bamp's house!

Penelope is doing so very well, but this picture is a good example of how she still goes back into her own little world when she's nervous or in a new environment.
No worries, she warmed right up!
"Outside" is definitely new to her. I'm guessing she was never taken outside before. She loves it, but isn't sure about the wind in her face. She liked her sunglasses!

Dex & Q were finding worms and lady bugs.

Then they gathered eggs.

Hope Mam didn't have any plans for the eggs, the boys fed them all to Sadie.

She is decidedly against letting her feet touch the grass :)

Tonight I will close with this-For a long time I have been saying Penelope Mei would have an amazing "before and after" story. I am well aware that this is just the beginning of the amazing story God will write for our daughter, but I think this is a good start!!
When I look at these two pictures, I can hardly believe this is the same child.
Just a few short weeks ago, Penelope was an orphan.
She had no Mama. No Daddy. No Gabe, Dexter or Quincy. She may not have known what she was missing, but the sad, hollow, blank look tells me that she knew she was missing something.

Thank God she didn't give up. Thank God she waited for us. Thank God she is ours.

God sets the lonely in families....

Our Cali had the same eye surgery after she came home -- it works wonders (and I'm betting that the girls have the same surgeon too)!!!! She also didn't know what to do with the wind in her face - it was funny to watch her adjust to that. Nor was she a great fan of walking barefoot in the grass, but that changed quickly and now I can't keep shoes on those little feet!

Oh, we DO need to talk in person soon!!!!! So many things the same with our girls.......
